The first week of 2017 has come and gone and – ready or not – week 2 is upon us! Have you had time to reflect on your 2016 and assess how things have changed and/or what you’ve accomplished slash didn’t accomplish? I’ve still got a little more reflecting to do myself, but I did jot down a few of the lessons I learned in 2016.
In addition to reflecting on the year that’s just ended, we’ve also got a brand new year to get excited about – 2017 here we come! I don’t know about you, but I’ve got BIG sights for the year ahead and there’s nothing more exciting than a fresh start – a blank slate. Speaking of, here are some (hopefully) helpful and inspiring tips on how to have your best year yet and how to set effective goals that you might have missed from last week’s blog posts.
If you follow on insta (or snapchat or read my post about my BEST purchases of 2016), then yeppp it’s official friends, I’m a homeowner! Woohoo! It felt strange before I moved in, but now that all my stuff is in this place, it feels EVEN more strange! But at the same time, I LOVE it! I just cannot wait to get all my new furniture in and get everything all decorated and organized. Right now, I”m using two 2 ft. little stools as bar stools and don’t have a mattress on my new bed – just to give you an idea of how out-of-order things currently are! I’m thinking that within the next 6 weeks we should be starting to look more like home. Stay tuned, friends!
But speaking of the new house, what kinds of posts would y’all like to see? I know you want to see the reveal, but that might take a bit of time since I’m getting a few of my staple furniture items custom made. I mentioned doing a kitchen organization post in my snapchat last night and I was surprised to see that several of y’all were actually interested in seeing that!
What else would y’all like to see? Anything on buying a new house or that process? I learned so much throughout the entire process of deciding to buy and then actually buying a house including (but oh-so-not limited to) the following: borrowing money/mortgages, being a landlord (wait what?! yes, I have room mates), property taxes (omg), closing costs on a house (gahhh), saving money, and so much more throughout the process. I am by NO MEANS an expert on any of this (not even close!), but I’ve at least been through it myself now!
I will say the hardest part for me personally was figuring out “when” it made sense to invest in a house and start building equity versus continuing to rent. In other words, figuring out when I could actually afford a house and all the unexpected costs, responsibilities and potential liabilities that come with it. I feel like that’s definitely a personal decision and depends on a lot of different circumstances, but I think things like budgeting and smart ways to save are things we could all benefit from right? Either way, comment below with what you’d like to learn more about and maybe (if we have enough people interested), I can find a way to share that information on BTD in the future!
I posted about it last night on instagram, but YOU GUYS – I bought a washer and dryer. Maybe that’s not a big deal to you but I felt like SUCH an adult walking into Home Depot knowing I was going to get myself a big girl appliance. Like, what?! It was quite the moment for me and I’m looking forward to more to come (ha!). I’ll do my best to share them with y’all too!

NYE feels like forever ago. Or maybe that’s just me?! But this past week seemed so jam-packed that it felt sort of like 2 weeks! Anyway, this is what I wore for NYE and I (personally) absolutely LOVED this outfit – every single detail of it. The jacket is reversible and I think the floral embroidery is AMAZE (love the colors!). But the tank is maybe the BEST part and the detail that YOU can’t miss.
