Mixing high and low fashion is something I do on a daily basis. While it’s fun (and exciting at times!) to invest in high-price, luxury items, a true testament of personal style is whether you’re able to effortlessly mix fancy and bargain pieces into one seamless outfit. Plus, I like to buy new things (although I don’t always love shopping), and I’ve found that I get just as excited about the “newness factor” of a $39 sweater than I do with a $140 one. At the end of the day, it’s still a new sweater and something different and exciting to style with existing pieces.
One of the places I like to pick up staple pieces at a great price is JCPenney. There’s a free-standing store right by house that I love to pop in on my way home from running errands sometimes. Plus, I love that I don’t have to deal with the mess of the mall (#score!).
I’ve started to shop there more recently because my room mate is actually a fashion designer there (I know….so cool, right?! – She’s SUCH a rockstar!) And since living with her, I’ve grown to appreciate the company and grow more familiar with the design process that she goes through – seeing the product from ideation to completion. I always love finding pieces that I’ve seen her design! I also love the JCPenney has their own exclusive designer labels and I’m able to find things there that I haven’t seen elsewhere!
I typically spend my money on accessories and keep the other elements of my looks relatively budget-friendly. If you follow me on instagram, then you know I love a good top, sweater or dress under $50. I found this fun cold shoulder top at JCPenney’s last week – it’s by Worthington which is actually one of their exclusive designer labels that I mentioned above. I found it when I stopped by on the way home from running errands last week while looking for some gloves when the temperate dropped in Dallas like 20 degrees (#soworthit). I styled it with all black and am actually wearing it to a holiday part tonight!
