Two weekends ago, we got to celebrate Four’s first birthday with our closest family and friends and it was truly the most magical celebration. The coincidental thing is that we actually had to cancel our original party plans due to an ice storm in Dallas, which brought back all the memories of the giant ice storm we had a year ago RIGHT after Four was born. We had just moved back to Dallas from Denver and were frantically trying to get things set up for Four when he decided to make an early appearance and surprise us all.
That snowstorm totally shaped the first week of Four’s life, which is why I decided on the Winter Onederland theme for his first birthday party. It was so fun coming up with ways to incorporate snow/ice into different aspects of the party.
I had such a great experience with Madeleine of Madeleine Creative for our holiday party in December that I asked her to help out with Four’s party too. She seriously takes all of the stress out of planning, ordering, and organizing everything!
Our main colors for the party were white and blue, so a white cake and powdered donuts were a must. I ordered the cake from A Dose of Lilly and love how it turned out. My main goal was simple and she made it so cute with the added icing snowflakes.
For the blue and white balloons, I went with a local company called Lushra. I’d heard great things about them from several of my friends who’ve recently thrown parties of their own. I also liked that they offer both pickup and delivery options so you don’t have to stress about getting out of the house if you’re trying to get everything set up.
We hired The Hamburger Man to come out and help us with catering. They were amazing. We kept it super simple with burgers, and it was so nice not to have to worry about the food AT ALL. They made sure there was always enough food out for everyone and the burgers were so tasty. (You also get potato salad and baked beans!)
I also put together a sweet slide show for the first year of Four’s life that we had playing in the background during the party. It was so sweet to see how much he’s grown over the past year.
A couple of things to note regarding decorations — several of the decor pieces were borrowed from Madeleine’s personal collection of entertaining pieces (cake stands, ice buckets, vases, serving/display pieces, etc.) or were from vendors that she buys wholesale from. Also, the water bottle stickers, party favors, signage, and invitations were all custom designed.
Here’s a quick list again of all the vendors I used for reference:
Food Catering // Cake // Balloons // Four’s Birthday Outfit // Frames // 3 Ft Silver Tree centerpiece // Snowflakes – also here (some were from a wholesale vendor Madeleine uses) // Candy // Party Favor Cotton Candy // Winter Onederland Sign // Cute Hat + ONE Sign
