Like I’ve mentioned before, you win or lose by the things you choose. And each morning, you have the opportunity to decide and ultimately determine whether or not you’re going to tackle the day or let it tackle you. Seriously, even those days where everything imaginable goes wrong, you can still control the way you react and adjust your perspective on the situation. Right? So do yourself a favor and choose happiness!
Here are a few simple little tips that help me to keep a positive spirit and make the best of each day:
1. Live for something bigger than yourself.
When you’ve got something you’re striving for and are living with a big-picture-state-of-mine, it’s easier to focus on the “big stuff” – the stuff that really matters. And then the “little stuff” just doesn’t seem so important anymore. My faith is a big part of who I am, how I think, and how I act. And although I fall short and fail time and time again, at the end of the day I find so much peace in living for Christ and His purpose. Don’t let your days be driven by the/your circumstances.
2. Take time for yourself.
We spend so much time drilling and discipling ourselves in our professional life, “domestic” life, at the gym, and so on. And although this devotion and dedication is a wonderful thing, it’s also important to make time to rejuvenate and treat ourselves. And plus, it’s important to be balanced and remember that we aren’t robots. You’re probably going to be more productive if you go on a walk and/or take a shower/bath anyway….just saying.
3. Take advantage of lulls in your day.
I know it’s frustrating when you get stuck behind a train or last in a miles-long line at the DMV, but instead of getting frustrated, see this time as an opportunity. Enjoy the song on the radio, say some quick prayers, make/adjust your to-do list, call an old friend, or just enjoy being quiet/still.
4. Have a grateful heart.
It’s inevitable that you’ll feel joy by having a gracious and appreciative mentality towards others and just with your life in general.
5. Do little things for others.
Remember people’s names and listen to what they have to say. Take an interest in their well being and help when you can – you’re bound to love yourself more if you do!
6. Slow your roll.
Slow the check down! Pump the breaks. The sun is going to rise tomorrow…even if you don’t get through your to-do list. Leave for work/school THREE minutes earlier so you don’t yell/make evil faces at innocent people on the way there. Be realistic with your time and manage it well.
How do you choose to be happy each day? Do you have any tips to share that might be helpful?! Please do tell!
