I know I’m always talking about how much I love bright colors, but I’m also a big fan of the “muted” look – aka pretty pastels! Just like color blocking with bold colors, it’s just as aesthetically pleasing to color block with pastels.  I’ve searched the web and have had a hard time coming up with pastel items that I like. A few of the big designers are doing pastels for Spring 2012, but the collections are well into the triple and quadruple digits – really? So needless to say, I didn’t include those! If you know of nay great pastel pieces, let me know and I’ll add some!

After looking through my closet (and my sisters’), I realized that we don’t have much pastel. But I still wanted to add a personal touch to this post, so I put together an outfit with what I could find and my little sister, LeLe, took these pictures.  Luckily, the Dee Keller Collection has some lovely pale pink loafers that went well with the outfit.

That last picture was an accident (I was reaching for the camera), but it showed the 3 colors well! For my hair, I used the oldest trick in the book – the sock bun. If you don’t know how to do it, don’t be afraid – it’s so very simple! A quick google search will tell you all you need to know!

I did my makeup a little differently than usual. The pictures don’t really do the look justice, but I was going for a washed-out-shimmer look…if that makes sense?  If you’re interested, I’ve explained how I did my makeup below:

makeup

Eyes: First I covered my eye lid with my every day Cover Girl Concealer to make sure the shadow would stick and have a nice finish. Then I chose ONE color (light pink) and applied it to my entire eye lid – up to my brow. Then, I chose a lighter color (cream) and lined the inside edges of my eyes to add a subtle glow – can you see it? For my liner, I used my Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eye Liner (in dark brown) and applied a VERY thin line to the outer edges of my eye.

Cheeks: First, I applied my Bobbi Brown Rouge for Lips & Cheeks to my cheek bones. I love this blush because it’s more of a gel than a powder, so it stays longer and doesn’t rub off. Then, to add the shimmer look to my cheeks, I used my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick on top of what I’d just applied.

Lips: To get the washed-out look, I first applied concealer to my lips. Warning: it looks super freaky at first! But no worries, it’s just the under color. Then, I simply applied Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss
