Happy Tuesday, friends! I am loving this cool weather that makes it actually feel like winter outside. Don’t get me wrong, the 70-degree days are amazing too, but there’s something about a crisp winter morning that wakes me up and energizes me throughout the day.
I’ve talked before about the importance of a good morning routine. In fact, I’ve even shared my secrets to a better morning. But as any of you with kiddos know, your routine changes quite a bit once you have children so I thought it’d be fun to do an updated post on how my routine has changed now that I’m a mom.
This routine can work for anyone (not just mamas). You know I like to keep things simple and realistic! For example, there’s no way I’m getting in a workout every morning, so I opt for a 30-minute walk instead. It helps me start the day off on the right foot and leaves me feeling great!
6 am: Get Up & Make My Bed
I’ve always been a morning person, even before having a baby. Obviously, little ones are notorious for waking up early, so this has definitely helped me adjust to life as a mom. The first thing I do when I hop out of bed every morning is make my bed. Even if I do nothing else that day, I can feel good about the fact that my bed is made!
6:15 am: Drink a Large Glass of Water & Take My Morning Vitamins
I actually started doing this not too long ago and it’s made a huge difference in my mornings. I fill up one of our glasses, take my morning vitamins, then finish the entire glass of water. I’ve noticed that this helps me drink more water throughout the day, which is always a goal (read: struggle) of mine.
The only vitamins I take these days are the Ritual multivitamins. I’ve tried a lot of vitamins in the past and hated the way they taste or they made me sick, but I love that Ritual vitamins have fewer side effects and are easy for me to swallow!
6:30 am: Make Coffee & Eat Breakfast
The next thing I do each morning is make a cup of coffee and myself and put something quick together for breakfast. Y’all might remember me posting about the coffee maker we got over the holidays. This was a huge investment, but I take my coffee very seriously and this makes a GREAT cup of coffee.
On the weekends, we love to go all out for breakfast and make pancakes, bacon, eggs… the whole shebang. But during the weekdays, I typically make a quick smoothie or grab some toast. Whatever is quick and easy so I can move onto the next thing!
7 am: Read Scripture & Journal
This part of my morning can look different from day to day, but I always try to fit in some quiet time and journaling. Some days it’s 5 minutes, others it’s an hour. But there is honestly nothing else I do that starts my day off quite like this.
I try not to put too much pressure on myself to make this time perfect because each day, I feel like this time fills me up in a different way. I am a big note-taker, so I love taking notes as I read and then praying over the scripture I just read. This is such a sacred time for me before the craziness of the day begins.
8 am: Morning Walk
Another non-negotiable part of my morning is our morning walk. I’ve always enjoyed these walks, back to when I was single and it was just me taking them. Now that I have Four, it’s become a way for us to get in some family time before we go our separate ways for the day.
We definitely don’t do our morning walks for exercise purposes, although it’s definitely nice to get in 30 minutes of movement in the morning. It’s just a great way for us to connect and talk about our days ahead.
8:30 am: Do My Skin & Hair Care Routine
Our childcare usually arrives at this time, so I’m able to step away and actually get ready for the day before it’s time to start working. The first thing I do is hop in the shower (most days) and work on my hair care routine. Y’all know I love using Agenda products on my hair because it’s a quick and simple system that keeps my hair healthy, smooth, and (most importantly) voluminous.
Once I’m out of the shower, I let my hair air dry or style it depending on what I’ve got going on that day, and immediately move onto my skincare routine. Most days, this is pretty basic, but I always make sure to include my Vitner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum, a moisturizer, and an SPF of some sort.
9 am: Begin Working
When it’s time to get down to business, I pour myself another large glass of water and hunker down in my office slash closet to start working. My work day looks different every day, so where the day goes from here, I never know. But by following my morning routine each morning, I know I can at least get myself in a good mindset before the day really begins.
I’d love to know what’s in your morning routine. I’m always changing mine up and love adding new helpful things to my ritual!
