Success is something we all want – right? It’s one of the universal wishes or things we all strive for, at least I know I do. And even though success can look different to each person, there are obviously some things that make us all feel like we’re killing the game. Whether through work, relationships, diet, whatever, we can all probably work to be a liiiittle more successful. So this is just a fun post on a couple things to do per area of your life to get that success movin’ in the right direction!

How to Be More Successful With Your Career

Network (a lot!)

Yes, it’s important to have the skills and knowledge needed for your career, but can you guess what is even more important to your success? Your social skills. It’s true y’all! When you network with the right people throughout your career, you’re building relationships that can be bridges for you down the road. You never know when your paths will cross with someone again, so networking is key. And so is always treating those you come into contact with kindly – even if they’re not doing the same. Your reputation is important!

Play up your strengths

Instead of worrying about what you might not be good at, give extra attention to your strengths. Work on those strengths daily. Let them lead your tasks. Once you focus on those, you’ll build up your confidence and be able to tackle the things you want to spend more time improving on. And then, delegate, and kinda forget about what you suck at.

Identify your goals

Sometimes we get so caught up in the day to day that we forget to take a step back and remember what we’re doing everything for. Take some time to identify what’s really important to you – what are you looking to get out of the role you’re currently in? If the role you’re in isn’t going to help you reach your career goals, how can you pivot to change that?

How to Be More Successful With Your Relationships

Communicate, communicate, communicate

Nowadays, it’s easy to get distracted by our phones (like real easy), but try to give your relationship the undivided attention it needs, especially if you want it to be successful. Perhaps what’s most important to successful communication is listening. If you’re able to really listen to where your friend, family member, or significant other is coming from, you’ll be better able to empathize with them.

Pick your battles

There’s something to be said about letting things go, isn’t there?? Especially when it comes to having a successful relationship. A lot of the time, the arguments we have are not productive and actually end up hurting our relationships more than helping them. Finding ways to reduce the frequency of conflict – by picking our battles – could add a lot more happiness and lead to a longer lasting relationship. If it’s not important, it’s totes OK to let it go!

Focus on what you can control

It can be hard to trust in any relationship, especially if the trust has been broken. But what we need to realize is that a lot of the time we carry over past issues into new relationships. We can’t control what others do, but what we can control is our own actions. If you focus more on being happy with yourself, you’re less likely to be as affected by the actions of others.

How to Be More Successful With Your Health

Make exercise a priority

I’ve found that the easiest way to stick to my workouts is to schedule them in AND call friends. This means that I treat them like any other meeting or appointment and I’ll send my friends a calendar invite. I used to just head to the gym (slash my living room for BBG) whenever I had time, but I’ve noticed that I’m more likely to stick to my workouts if I actually have them written down in my planner. Another tip I have is to find something you actually love – don’t hit the treadmill if you hate running, simple as that. When you love your workouts, you’ll look forward to them and will be more likely to actually stick to them. Again, I know I like working out with friends, so I’ve been trying to mix this in to every workout.

Meal prep

To set yourself up for success, take time each week to prep your meals. If you don’t have time to prep every single meal, that’s okay – start with prepping for a couple days a week and go from there. It’s so much easier to eat well and not be tempted to go off track when you have your healthy meals ready to grab and go.

Listen to your body

It’s not uncommon to want to push yourself even when you’re feeling under the weather or super overwhelmed. But sometimes you just need to get back to your roots and learn to trust your intuition when it’s telling you to get some extra R & R. That means it’s okay to call in sick when you’re not feeling well, or to cancel plans with friends if you feel like you need some extra down time. Working on this in 2018!!

What areas of your life are you feeling extra successful? Any that you feel like you’re constantly failing? How do you improve your own success?
