I try to be careful with what I expose myself to and what I “put” into my mind. Kind of like a censoring of sorts…but, self imposed. Why? because I realize and know from experience that I am a product of my environment and am influenced by the things I see/hear/read. And this could mean anything from friends to co-workers to what TV shows I watch and even to what music I listen to.
If we are around something for long enough, we have the tendency to adapt and sometimes compromise our opinions, values, or simply what we perceive to be acceptable behavior. I’m not saying that I lack values or will change my opinions based on the direction of the wind…because that’s definitely not true! But I am saying that if I flip through a magazine with lots of pretty things and pretty people, it makes me want things I wasn’t wanting before I looked at it. That’s just a silly example, though!
The bottom line is that we should be aware of how this world influences us and that it can sometimes have the tendency to “rub off” on us.
Personally, I always try to take a step back from the day-to-day happenings every now and again and evaluate the matters of my heart. Asking myself questions regarding my priorities and what really is important to me. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the silly things! Don’t you think? or is this just a sign of my immaturity? haha. maybe I’ll get better with age!
Too deep for you? Just something to think about! Surround yourself with people who will lift you up and with things that will encourage you to be a better person, rather than the contrary. Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday! xoxo
