Last year, I took on the 3x3x3 challenge, and y’all, it was a game-changer for my wardrobe. The idea of using just 3 tops, 3 bottoms, and 3 pairs of shoes to create multiple looks showed me the magic of having a simplified, curated collection of clothes that really work together. It was also the perfect introduction to building a capsule wardrobe — and now, with fall officially here, I’m excited to share my updated approach for 2024.
Why I Love a Fall Capsule Wardrobe
Fall is my favorite time of year to experiment with layering, cozy textures, and rich tones. But I also love the practicality of a capsule wardrobe — having a streamlined collection of pieces that I know I’ll wear on repeat. This fall, I’m leaning even more into that simplicity. My goal: versatile pieces that feel effortlessly stylish, while making it easy to get dressed each morning (without the overwhelm).
How I Built My Fall Capsule Wardrobe
For my 2024 fall wardrobe, I’ve stuck to a few guiding principles. First, versatility is everything. I wanted each piece to work in multiple ways — from running errands to heading out to a dinner with friends. Second, I focused on a cohesive color palette that feels autumnal but still timeless. Think shades of camel, cream, black, and denim, with a few pops of earthy tones to bring in some fall vibes.
Here’s what I included:
THE TOPS
This season, layering is key. I chose a cute cropped trench coat (obsessed) from A&F. This is such a fun play on a classic closet staple. I plan to pair this with some simple shirts and light sweaters for fall.
THE BOTTOMS
For bottoms, I kept things simple with a pair of wide leg jeans (a fall essential!), a pair of black barrel trousers, and a midi skirt that adds a bit of feminine flair. Each of these options can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.
THE SHOES
I’m all about mixing comfort and style when it comes to fall shoes. This year, I’ve opted for my fav Samba sneakers (because they literally go with everything) and a pair of leopard flats that add some fun to any outfit. You also can’t go wrong with classic black or brown flats.
THE ACCESSORIES
Accessories are the finishing touch that pulls everything together. This season, I’ve added the most perfect chocolate brown bag for a touch of fall flair, a classic black belt, and some oversized gold knot earrings for a bit of shine.
Wide Leg Jeans
Black Midi Skirt
The Utility Barrel Pant
The best part of this year’s capsule wardrobe is how easy it makes getting dressed. With just a few versatile pieces, I’ve been able to create tons of looks that feel fresh and put-together without overthinking it. I’m loving how effortless it feels to mix and match these items.
Whether you’re looking to build your own capsule wardrobe or just want to add some key pieces for the season, this method is perfect for simplifying your life and keeping your closet clutter-free. You’ll be surprised how far a few good pieces can take you! Let me know if you’re planning your fall capsule wardrobe, and what must-haves you’re including this season.
