Hi friends! Today lets talk midi skirts. Recently I’ve been going down memory lane and looking at a bunch of old photos. Can you believe I’ve been blogging for 9 years!?! I love looking back at old photos. I can still remember when I really loved an outfit or when I was obsessed with certain fashion trends (do ya’ll remember bubble necklaces???). Looking through old photos made me realize how much I love midi skirts. I’ve been styling them for years. I wore them to my corporate job, when I was pregnant, in the summer and even in the winter. It’s an easy item to wear all year long. I love having a few in my closet and I know they will always be worn.

Fashion trends change frequently. For example, who knew that clogs would ever come back into style?! Its hard to figure out which items to invest in. Something I love this year could sit at the back of my closet next year. But, I’m confident that midi skirts are here to stay. I’ve been wearing them for years and wear them *all* year round!

Have I convinced you that you need a midi skirt yet? Not sure how to style it? Don’t worry – I’ve listed some advice below on how to style a midi skirt during each season. Hope this helps!!

Styling a Midi Skirt in Spring & Summer

I’ve always loved wearing midi skirts during the spring and summer months. And now that I’m a mom, I love them even more. I instantly feel like I’ve elevated my style when I pull one on. But, it’s still functional. I don’t have to worry about flashing someone when I bend over to pick up a dropped sippy cup. During the warmer months, I tend to go for a more flowy midi skirt. The air flow the looser skirts provide is necessary in the Texas heat. And I almost always pair it with a t-shirt or tank top. Both the tank and tee could be tucked into the skirt. Or, for a fun detail, you could tie the tee to hit at your waistline. I tend to wear sandals or tennis shoes with the skirt. This give the whole outfit a more “laid-back” feeling. If I want a more polished look, I’ll grab a pair of chunky heels to put on. Pair with a purse or belt bag to finish the look.

Styling a Midi Skirt in Fall & Winter

For fall and winter, I replace my tees with a long sleeve shirt or I pair it with a jacket. I usually wear booties or sneakers during these months. If I wear the skirt with booties, I usually pick out a pointed toe bootie. The pointed toe elongates the entire look. For really cold days, you could wear a pair of over-the-knee boots with the skirt. If you choose to wear a jacket or cardigan, I suggest wearing a tighter tee or tank underneath to add some depth and shape to your outfit. If you want a more relaxed look, try pairing a chunky sweater and sneakers with your skirt. Are you looking for a more polished look? Add a padded headband.

Styling a Midi Skirt through Pregnancy

I wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull off a midi skirt when I was pregnant. But, I ended up loving it. My best tip is to find skirts with elastic waistbands. My second tip is to wear your skirt above your bump. The elastic waistband hugs your ribcage, which gives you some shape. I preferred to wear a tighter top that tucked into the skirt. Again, this showed off my shape a little more. I tried wearing a top without tucking it in, but it just didn’t work. Are you pregnant during the summer months? You could try tying a tee that hits at the top of the skirt or wearing a crop top.

Work & Formal Events

Midi skirts are great for work or formal events. The length of the skirt is perfect for these types of situations. I suggest grabbing a skirt with texture to create a more sophisticated look. I love wearing a velvet skirt, a skirt with pleats, or a silky skirt to formal events. Pair the skirt with a top that can be tucked in or that hits at the top of the skirt. I would suggest wearing a collard top for work. Add some cute jewelry and heels to finish of the look.

Don’t Have a Midi Skirt? Layer Over a Midi Dress

Don’t have a midi skirt but the love the look? Then a midi dress is the next best option. Add a tighter top on top and tie it at your natural waistline. Both of the dresses below have the same look as a midi skirt, but without the actual skirt.
