I’ve always been a big fan of belts.
They may come in and out of style, but I’ve always loved them because my momma did. My mom has an insane collection and I always loved the way she could make (aka complete) an outfit with a classic-looking (or totally funky) statement belt. Aside from her chic-as-ever Ralph Lauren concho belt (#goals), she’s got a few killer Gucci belts that I’ve always admired (and, let’s be honest, borrowed too from time to time!) In fact, since she knew I loved it so much, she actually gave it to me after I graduated college – it’s one of my absolute favorites!
So it was really funny slash awesome for me to see that statement belts are making a comeback. I actually almost bought the new Gucci belt back in July while I was in Italy but they didn’t have the exact size and color combo I wanted. And then before I knew it, this (now) “iconic” Gucci monogram belt is literally EVERYWHERE. So all I’ve got to say is props to momma Dee for being so trendy and eons ahead of the trend game.
Enough about the ubiquitous Gucci belt though, I think the important thing to note is that we are seeing a comeback of the statement belt in general – and I’m all about it! I can’t wait to see how this translates into Spring and Summer styles! Just last week, I ventured into my personal storage unit looking for some of my old statement belts and ended up dusting off 3 of my old babes that I plan on bringing back in 2017!
A statement belt can easily dress up any outfit and make it look polished. You can dress up a t-shirt and jeans with a belt to take it from casual to put together. Or wear an all neutral outfit and add a belt with flashy hardware as the focal point of your ensemble. All in all, I think good-lookin’ belts are worth the splurge and definitely an item you’ll have forever – especially if it’s something timeless like Gucci or Ralph Lauren.
