I wore this flowy midi skirt outfit to an early Spring date night last week when the weather was a perfect 75 and the breeze was minimal. I’ll admit, it was a little premature to wear the look (given that it was literally the FIRST day of Spring), but regardless of when I wore it, it’s such a FUN outfit for the upcoming April and May Spring months (and summer too!) Don’t you think?

There’s Not Just One Type of Midi Skirt

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, midi skirts are back in a big way. And with the come-back of this below-the-knee-but-above-the-ankle hemline, we’ve welcomes all sorts of different types of the so-called midi skirt varying in style and length. But the bottomline is that it’s indisputable that the midi length hemline is having quite a moment – and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere anytime soon either.

I’m not sure if you’ve warmed up to the trend just yet, but as I’m sure you’ve noticed, I’m a full fledged fan and have embraced the midi skirt and all it’s variants alike. Although I hope to cover a few different types of midi skirts as the trend continues to be relevant, today I want to focus on one particular silhouette; namely, the flowy midi skirt which is indeed different than other styles such as the A-line, pencil, and flared silhouettes.

The Flowy Midi Skirt – What is it?

Did you know that “flowy” isn’t technically a word? Maybe that’s a dumb question. But I guess I’ve never really thought about it. But in doing a little prep for this post I discovered that ‘flowy’ is not an actual word in the english dictionary – although I think we use it enough for it to be! So then I tried to think of a better way to explain the particular type of midi skirt I wanted to address in this post – aka the one I’m wearing above.

But for the life of me, I couldn’t think of a better word that clearly described this type/style of skirt other than flowy. Can you? Believe me, I tried but was left stumped. Anywho, I’m going to call it the flowy type – because that’s all I got!

Flowy Midi Skirt Outfit – Style Pairings Explained

I paired this flowy midi skirt with a fun and flirty crop top. But to be honest, this skirt took me a hot second to style because if it’s not paired with the right type of top, the elastic waist can look a little grandmaw-ish. Unless you have a good waist-sized brown belt to cover the elastic (which I didn’t). If you did have a belt, I think you’d have more styling options for this skirt FYI.

Anyway, since I didn’t have the write kind of belt, I had to figure out another way to distract from the elastic and “elevate” it in a stylish way. I ended up going with a boxy-ish shaped crop top that was just long enough to cover the elastic waist but just short enough to flirt with the waist line. I hope that makes sense?

The split in the back makes not only for an interesting twist (and touch of sass!) but also adds a little flare to the shape and fit of the top that creates a playful look. The statement necklace completes the outfit by “grounding” or adding weight to the flared crop top, pulling the ensemble together. Lastly, I wore delicate heels to keep all the attention on the fun and flirty flowy skirt and accentuated high-waist.
