Today’s post is all about my best tips for helping y’all pull off white on white. I thought it would be good info to put out there because I know that for me, before I really got into blogging and trying as many looks as I do, I was always a little nervous to go for a white on white look. Why can it feel so intimidating?!
On a recent trip to J. Crew, I found lots of great pieces that would work SO WELL for a white on white outfit. I’m sharing my finds and my tips below so hopefully after reading, you have no doubt on how to pull it off!
Go classic
This is where my recent finds at J. Crew come in. I had been eyeing several different items online so I decided to head into the store to check a few things out in person. Sometimes you just want to feel things and try on in-store – know what I mean?! Anyway, I hit the motherload. Y’all know I LOVE my Demi-boot cropped pants I got earlier this year and included in my capsule wardrobe (the black ones!) because I styled them like 7+ ways on the blog. I’ve been on the hunt for a white pair for summer because I love how the cropped flare makes for a completely different look and outfit than your typical skinny hem. And I’m loving how this cut looks with the current shoe trends: mules and slides and even sneakers too! All that to say, I was so excited to find a high-waisted pair that fit well at J.Crew! I got my usual size for reference (25).
What I’m trying to say is, I’m obsessed with these jeans because the demi-boot cut is classic. It’s not super trendy like some cropped wide leg options are (although I love those too, I just feel like in a few years they won’t be in style as much). With a classic pair in white, though, you’ll have them in your closet for YEARS without having to worry they’re out of style.
Texture
Wearing white on white can get a little…flat? Yeah, that’s the word. You want to add a little something-something to spice it up a bit. Enter: this flutter sleeve pom-pom top from J. Crew. It doesn’t look as cute on the website (in white!) but it is ADORABLE – trust me. I love it so much with white jeans or with light (or dark!) denim. It has JUST the right amount of “stuff” going on if you know what I mean!
If the pom-pom top is too much texture for you, go for something a little simpler instead. I’m always looking for an excuse to wear a classic white tee – you just can’t go wrong. So when I saw this one with the subtle lace detailing on the sleeve, I was SO IN. This will be so easy and fun to style for Spring and Summer! And you still get a bit of that texture incorporated.
Add a slight punch of color
You might be thinking that adding a punch of color defeats the purpose of wearing white on white, but I like to add something a little unexpected. Plus, I’ve been on a baby blue kick lately (remember all the blue accents in the capsule wardrobe?!), so I was immediately drawn to these fun blue statement earrings also found at J. Crew!
While in the store, I also picked up this sweater blazer in grey (size DOWN). I’ve had my eye on it for 2 years now and I’m so excited I finally decided to bite the bullet! I’ve also been eyeing it in the blush pink color too!
If you’ve found yourself nervous to rock the white on white look this Spring and Summer, I hope these tips inspire you to go for it!
Thank you J. Crew for sponsoring this post! As always, all opinions and content are my own.
