3 Outfits for the 4th of July + Tips on Dressing for the Holiday

fourth of July outfit

I honestly can’t believe it’s almost the 4th of July y’all…like wasn’t it just Christmas?! But here we are!

Summer holidays like the 4th or Memorial Day are always kinda tricky to dress for. So much of the stuff out there is too over the top or themed or something I would have worn to a college frat party – know what I mean? Because of that, I thought it’d be helpful to create a few outfits that were cute, not cheesy, to celebrate our country this summer. Still think red, white, and blue but in a more elevated/classy way!

And no surprise here, I got every outfit from Nordstrom – basically where I shop for all my summer clothes! Their summer stuff is probably my favorite and I honestly had a hard time not buying the entire store because everything is CUUUUTE right now. Plus, y’all know I like to buy a hundred things and return what doesn’t fit, and Nordstrom is so amazing with that.

Fourth of July Outfit Ideas + Tips

Each of these looks could easily be recreated by what you have in your closet with a few new additions from Nordstrom. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when styling for these holidays:

Day Party Look: Printed Skirt // Tie Strap Crop Top // Wrap Sandals // Circle Straw Bag // Sunglasses (similar) // Bangles

Gingham FTW

Instead of wearing stars or stripes, gingham gives off that Americana vibe without being themey. It’s a true summer staple and I’ve always thought it was adorable for summer. Whether it’s a gingham skirt (like the one I got here) or a gingham headband, it’s an easy way to add a detail that feels on par with the 4th of July!

Think about the weather

In Texas, it’s always SO. HOT. Which means I usually avoid anything gray or colors that show sweat, and I stick to breezy items like skirts (shorts sometimes feel constricting on me) and tank top cuts. Keep in mind breatheable fabrics like cotton and linen, too! If it’s really humid, I love the idea of bringing a red, blue, gingham, or striped scarf to tie your hair up and still feel cute/festive.

If it’s not too hot where you live, a denim jacket layered over a cute dress is a great option, or jeans and an eyelet top like this!

Casual Parade Look: White Ruffle Bodysuit // Chambray Skirt // Necklace // Bangles // Earrings // Sandals // Straw Bag // Scarf // Blanket

Chambray always

Another summer holiday staple? Denim or chambray! Even wearing jean shorts makes things feel appropriate for the holiday, but if you want to go more girly, can we talk about this chambray skirt with the bow detail? OBSESSED! I’ll probs be wearing this all summer, so get ready. Even if you just have denim shorts and a white tie up top + a cute scarf around your hair, you’re classy and good to go!

Keep shoes comfy

Summer BBQs aren’t the time to whip out the stilettos or some crazy trendy shoe. It’s all about ease and comfort for these holidays. I’m into Slide Sandals, these Wrap Sandals that are flattering and versatile, or a pair of block Block Heels if you do want to get a little sassy. I’ll forever be a fan of these Converse if y’all are doing something that requires sneakers. But no matter what you wear, stay comfortable. You don’t want to be the girl at the BBQ sinking into the grass in your heels, ha!

Consider linen or straw

One more fabric or trend to focus in on for these holidays is linen and straw. Both are a cute way to again, feel festive without wearing the American flag on your shirt. I am SO in love with this structured straw bag, and linen shorts/pants are everywhere right now which is perfect timing.

Hope y’all have a great 4th however you’re celebrating!
