The Skincare Routine I’m Loving [Summer 2019]

Wow it’s been forever since I’ve written a beauty post on here! I realize that I share a good amount of beauty (mainly hair) on Instagram, but I lack at bringing that same content to the blog, so I’m sorry about that friends! It’s been a long time since I shared my skincare routine and that’s for a couple reasons. 1. I never feel like I KNOW enough to share – like I just kinda choose products to try and put them on without knowing a TON about ingredients, what they do, what type of skin they are for, etc. and 2. My skin doesn’t always look super great, TBH, especially my red nose that just never seems to go away.

And if you know me at all, you know I like to RESEARCH the heck out of things before sharing with y’all. But that also limits me in so many ways and on so many topics. Skincare being one of them!

Lately though, I really have started having more fun with it and getting better and better about a serious skincare routine. I’ve shared my love for Tula before and honestly, it’s been one of the brands that I consistently use – other than that, it’s kinda whatever someone sends me or what I find that looks cool at Sephora or Target.

And you know what I’ve realized? THAT’S TOTALLY OK! You don’t need to be a beauty blogger to be able to share what’s working for you. And after my mom commented on how good my skin looked lately (after about a month of this consistent routine), I thought I’d share what I’ve been doing. Maybe it’s luck or coincidence, or maybe the combo really does work – but either way, I did want to share. I’m absolutely loving the products below. I probably am not doing it in the *right* order, but again, it’s working for me so does it really matter?

First things first: my skin type/details…

  • combination dry/oily
  • congested with blackheads on my nose & chin
  • hormonal breakouts only
  • not sensitive to trying new products
  • some redness (nose & eyelids)

The following items work for me and MY skin type, so if you have the following similar traits – chances are they will work for you, too! But I do want to clarify and say that I’m not a doctor or professional in this matter – I’m just sharing what works for me in hopes that you find some value from the info.

Cleansers and Exfoliators

So let’s start with my go-to cleansers and exfoliators.

I LOVE the Tula Purifying Cleanser. It’s my #rideordie number one product. I’ve recommended it so many times on IG stories and it’s because it WORKS! I tend to get a lot of blackheads leaving my skin feeling congested while also struggling with hormonal breakouts. I really think the Purifying Cleanser is what has been helping me keep my pores clear and be proactive in treating any hormonal acne that pops up. It’s also one of the products I’ve been using the longest and most consistently, so I feel like that that has to count for something.

For the exfoliator I love, I’m also going to call out a *new* Tula product. First, the So Polished Exfoliating Sugar Scrub smells AMAZING because it’s made with pineapple and papaya and second, my skin tends to be on the dry side and this makes it feel so moisturized. Like deeper than just on the surface, you know what I mean? It gives me all the moisture my skin craves while also getting rid of all the dead skin cells hanging out on the surface.

Serums & Oils

Next up are the serums and oils I’ve been using regularly. If you haven’t heard of Sunday Riley, you’ve got to try it out!

I have been especially loving their Good Genes Serum (~$158, depending on size). Like for real loving it – I’m on my third bottle. It’s one you might want to reach for if you’re looking for a really good anti-aging treatment I think? I don’t think I look wrinkly or anything, but this is a good way to stay on top of it. It’s a lactic acid treatment, so, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it helps with cell turnover, which keeps your skin looking fresh and revitalized!

I’m also obsessed with the Sunday Riley Luna Night Oil ($55). It’s a retinol that I think has helped me with some of my redness. Is my nose the same color as the rest of my face? Not quite, but I think this product has helped reduce my facial redness overall, which makes it a big win in my book. I honestly think both of these products help give my skin a glow, which is what my mom noticed when she told me my skin was looking good.

I also have been using C E FERULIC by Skinceuticals ($166)  and you guys, this stuff is AMAZING. It has 15% Vitamin-C in it, which helps with anti-gaining but also helps to brighten and protect your skin. In addition, it has FERULIC ACID, which helps enhance the benefits of antioxidants (which help protect your skin!).

Moisturizers and Creams

And last but definitely not least, if anything it’s my favorite category, moisturizers and creams! If you watch Stories you know I’ve been raving about the Estee Lauder Revitalizing Supreme+ Moisturizer. If you’re looking to add an anti-aging power product to your routine, this is it! It’s just rich and amazing. Try it if you want a good, creamy moisturizer with an anti-aging kick!

I’ve also been using Beautycounter Countermatch Intense Moisture Serum (can you tell I have dry skin?). It’s a hyaluronic acid, which I believe means it’s super hydrating. My skin always feels quenched after I put it on which is why I keep using it.

Eye Creams/Balms

I’m also a big fan of eye creams, and lately the one I keep finding myself going back to is the Beautycounter Countermatch Eye Rescue Cream.

Between that and the Tula Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm, which I keep with me in my purse usually and apply throughout the day for a pick me up, I feel like the area all around my eyes has been staying hydrated and bright.

Sunscreen

Finally, I’ve been loving Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. I mean there’s no point in all these anti-aging products if I’m not going to wear sunscreen, right? I know wearing sunscreen under your makeup doesn’t sound amazing, but Unseen Sunscreen goes on really smooth and I’ve never really felt like it leaves my skin feeling heavy and clogged like some sunscreens.

And that’s my skincare routine lately! It’s nothing crazy, but it seems to be working for me. If you have any questions go ahead and leave them in the comments and I’ll try my best to answer them. Again not an expert here, just sharing what I’ve been loving!
