Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Hey friends! I’m so excited to share with y’all the second edition of a capsule wardrobe that I created, this time for the summer season! If you haven’t seen my first capsule that I made for spring, check that out after you browse this one. I try to make the capsule wardrobes as evergreen as possible – that is what a capsule is all about, having pieces that aren’t staples in your wardrobe that you can style many different ways and can transition seasons.

For summer, I began with a few key pieces that I know I personally will be wearing on repeat. My favorite denim shorts, a short sleeve button up chambray top, the leather lace-up sandals and a denim jacket are a few of my go-to’s that you have already seen me style in other weekly outfit idea posts so naturally, I knew they’d need to be included in the summer capsule!

When I was styling the outfits for the summer capsule – I came out to 25 outfits total with 24 items in the wardrobe which is almost a whole month of outfits and I am sure you could make more if you tried out a few items in unique ways. For instance, I did the chambray top over the dress but you could do the white button up over the dress, too! I also included a few of my staple accessories with this capsule because these are items I actually gravitate towards when styling a look and I wanted y’all to see how well they go with so many different looks. Anyway, let’s get to the items!

I always love making the collages so I can see everything included all in one place! But now, I’m going to break it ALL down piece by piece, talk about why I chose it and show you THREE different ways style each top and bottom while using all the same pieces! I’ve separated out by category and will go through it in this order: TOPS, LAYERING PIECES, BOTTOMS, ACCESSORIES, SHOES.

TOPS

First up, let’s talk about the tops I selected for the BTD Summer Capsule. I made sure that each top I included was incredibly versatile – even the graphic tee. So that you could be sure to style it multiple ways and get a lot of wear out of the item.

Chambray Button-Up — I chose this top because I literally grab it every time I go to style a casual look. It’s so easy and I love how you can leave it untucked, tie up the ends or do a front tuck – so versatile! Super lightweight and easy to layer, too. I’m wearing size XXS  in this exact top if you’re wanting to get the same one.

White Button-Up — Same style as the chambray top, but in white! I did a whole blog post about styling a white button up – check those outfits out, too. But I love the versatility of this top and it has quickly become a closet STAPLE for me. I also got size XXS in this one.

White Square Neck Tank — I end up pairing this tank with so. many. outfits. Especially in the warmer months. This tank is fitted but super lightweight and in the softest material! You can easily layer it with so many bottoms and jackets. I also got it in black and if you haven’t already noticed,  I’ve been wearing it NONSTOP. I got size XS for reference.

Striped Tank — I wanted to do a fun printed top in this capsule, but with spring and summer brings so many statement top options so I opted for a simpler staple piece in this capsule for the accent color printed top. I’ve had the tank I styled in the pics for SO. LONG. But the tank I linked in the capsule is the same brand (which I love & trust) so I know you’ll have this tank if you choose to get it, for a long while!

Graphic Tee — I was also kind of struggling with the second non-solid colored top but then I thought about what I want to wear most of the time in the summer…a loose fitting comfy tee! I grabbed this graphic tee that I have had in my closet for a few months now. It’s still fully in stock!

White Bodysuit — I found this bodysuit last minute while prepping for this post and it styled so well with almost every item (you could definitely pair it with white jeans or shorts but I just felt like 3 white on white outfits was 2 too many for the capsule) It is double-lined in the bodice so you don’t have to worry about your bra or whatever showing through! I got size SMALL for reference. Oh and just a heads up, the bodysuit part is a thong (which I personally prefer so I don’t have to worry about panty lines)

Green T-Shirt Dress — I knew for summer I would need to include a dress, cue casual Fridays or casual everyday’s if you WFH, ha! I love styling this one by throwing a tee or button up over it and turning it into a skirt look! It’s under $40.

Layering Pieces

I don’t have too many layering pieces because it gets REALLY freaking hot in Dallas, so I don’t have much need for them. But I feel like it’s nice to have a few around as options for if you’re going somewhere inside with really cold AC or just to complete a look sometimes!

Denim Jacket — A no brainer item. I love this jacket. Super soft, high quality. Elevates your look and provides a layer in the breezy summer nights! In this exact jacket, I’m wearing size XS.

White Mesh Detail Zipper Jacket — I wanted to include a jacket or layering piece that wasn’t denim and this white jacket with mesh details was the perfect fit, pun intended. Perfect for work or play, too! In this exact jacket, I’m wearing size XS.

Bottoms

Most of the bottoms I selected are pretty basic and expected, but I did venture out with this striped midi skirt and I’m LOVING it! I’ve already worn it once and can’t wait to wear again! I love how surprisingly versatile it is!

High Waisted Striped Skirt — I searched high & low for the right skirt to include, I was going to do the floral one I have been wearing non-stop but I stumbled upon this one and thought it was more versatile and work appropriate too! Love how you can dress it up or down depending on the accessories or your top.

Denim Skirt — Love a denim skirt in the summer and especially love this one with the white bodysuit…it might be my favorite outfit of the capsule!

White Jeans — Also a no brainer for summer. White jeans give a classy element to any outfit and are so easy to style fancy or casual! Love the raw hem on the ones I linked.

Light Wash Denim Shorts — Hands. Down. Favorite. Item. I talk about these shorts non-stop and I also did a full blog post on how I styled them 12,832+ ways (see previous Weekly Outfit Inspo where I styled them several ways!). Everyone needs a good pair of denim shorts, these just happen to be so good I threw out every other pair of denim shorts I have. Now I have this style in dark wash, white and black!

White Denim Shorts — *see rave reviews about the same item above* ha! These are a staple too, if I wanna wear a blue top (chambray button up) that doesn’t really go with the denim shorts, so I styled it with the white! I somehow forgot to style these three different ways (oops), but hopefully you can imagine how versatile a good pair of white shorts would be for summer!

Black Paperbag Shorts — I love these shorts & they are so flattering! I like this kind of short to throw on over a one-piece swimsuit and heading to lunch at the beach. Perfect vacation item! I also styled them here. I’m wearing size 2 in these exact shorts.

Shoes

Tan Twisted Slides — Love these slides! So easy to style with literally anything, there’s not much else to say! They fit a little bit wide, but I  got my usual size and have been wearing them NONSTOP.

Leather Lace-Up Sandals — My (second to the ones above) favorite sandals of the past few weeks. I love how they make a dress casual and add a fun element of detail with the laces.

White Block Heel Sandals — Necessary for the 1,001 weddings you’ll go to this summer. Perfect for dressing up a white jeans look, too!

Tan Espadrille Wedges — My go-to wedge this spring/summer! So comfy and a no brainer item to throw on when I can’t decide what shoes to wear.

White Sneakers — You need white sneakers. The end. Whether it’s these or some other style – snag some because they make any outfit look like you’re an Olson twin circa 1990. Ha! Just kidding – love these sneakers to pull together a casual look!

Accessories

Straw Circle Crossbody Bag — I pair this bag with everything…it’s that good and under $60. Grab it!

Accent Scarf (Red, Pink, Yellow) — All about the scarf trend this season! So many versatile ways to wear them!

Gold Bangles — Love these bangles, they are the lightweight ones that come in rose gold and silver, too!

Black Sunglasses — Not much to say other than I love these and they go with EVERYTHING. Under $100!
