If you’ve scrolled IG in the past year or so, you’ve no doubt seen the famous Stanley Quencher. You truly cannot miss it. And there’s a reason for that — it’s good. Like, in terms of tumblers, it’s one of the best I’ve ever used (and that includes the gigantic ones they give you at the hospital after you have a baby).
But then out of nowhere, the Simple Modern Tumbler rolled onto the scene. I won’t say it’s necessarily replaced the Stanley Quencher, but it’s definitely gained popularity. And… spoiler alert, there are things I actually like *more* about the Simple Modern.
So, I thought a full comparison of the two might be helpful for those of who trying to decide which one might work best for you.
Stanley Quencher vs. Simple Modern Tumbler
1. Design and Build
The Stanley Quencher has a classic, rugged design with a durable stainless steel construction. It feels robust and like it’s built to last. However, sometimes I feel like the it gets a little too heavy when it’s full of liquid.
On the other hand, the Simple Modern Tumbler offers a sleek, contemporary design and comes in plenty of color options. It feels a little lighter than the Stanley Quencher, even though they hold the same amount of liquid (40 oz).
2. Insulation
Both tumblers are designed to keep your drinks hot or cold for extended periods. The Stanley Quencher uses QuadVac™ insulation technology, which provides amazing insulation. I haven’t put a hot drink in my Stanley yet, but I can confirm it keeps your drinks cold and ice frozen. I think the website says it will stay cold for 11 hours?
The Simple Modern Tumbler is equipped with double-wall insulation and does a great job keeping your beverages cold. I might even argue my drinks feel like they stay colder for longer when I use the Simple Modern than the Stanley.
3. Size and Capacity
When it comes to size and how much liquid each holds, I don’t recognize a huge difference between the Stanley Tumbler and the Simple Modern. The Quencher is available in 14 oz, 20 oz, 30 oz, 40 oz and 64 oz. Simple Modern Tumblers come in 12 oz, 16 oz, 20 oz, 24 oz and 28 oz.
One of the biggest things I notice between the two is that my Stanley doesn’t fit in my cup holder! Maybe I just have a super small cupholder or something, but the Simple Modern Tumbler fits just fine.
4. Lid and Accessories
The Stanley Quencher comes with a leak-proof lid; however, if mine tumps over (which happens often with toddlers in the house), I do find that it spills still. You can get a variety of lid options with the Simple Modern Tumbler, but I found it doesn’t leak at all so I never need to change out for another type of lid.
5. Price
Pricing varies based on the size and model you choose. Generally, the Simple Modern Tumbler tends to be more budget-friendly. For the versions I have, the Stanley Quencher is $45 and the SM Tumbler is $30.
OVERALL takeaway
Honestly, both the Stanley Quencher Tumbler and Simple Modern Tumbler have their strengths. I use both tumblers regularly. If you want durability, classic design, and superior insulation, the Stanley Quencher is a great choice.
However, if style options, affordability, and a wide range of sizes are your priorities, the Simple Modern Tumbler is worth considering. I do find myself reaching for my SM Tumbler more often mostly because it doesn’t spill at all and it fits easily into my cupholder, so if those two things are important to you too, that may be your best fit!
