Can y’all believe New Year’s Eve is less than 3 weeks away?! 2017 flew by for me, and I can’t believe I’m picking out an outfit for NYE, but here I am. To be honest, it’s not one of my favorite holidays and the night is usually pretty overrated in my opinion – but, nonetheless, I like to get together with friends to start the new year off right. One thing I’ve learned is to take pressure off the night because then it’s not as much of a bummer if the night isn’t perfect.
So instead of going out and buying 5 new outfits and spending a ton of money, I like to rely on cute accessories to make an outfit feel NYE appropriate. I actually kinda do this for any “going out” outfit these days, because with the right accessories, most basic outfits can be transitioned into going out!
If you don’t have a huge need for going out outfits and want to use accessories instead, here are current favorites for the start of 2018:
Statement jewelry
I’m all about gold and FUN pieces right now. I love the look of layered gold necklaces, or colored fringe/tassel earrings. They instantly dress up any outfit and add a little personality. I also really like drop earrings in a pretty stone when you want to go more glam.
Dainty hair piece
I’m freaking obsessed with velvet hair bows at the moment – for the holidays and beyond. They dress up hair in a cute feminine way and can be as easy as a pony tail. Doesn’t get quicker! Or, if those are too girly for you, a studded headband looks pretty or cool depending on how you style your hair (whether down and proper or a messy bun for some effortless edge).
Embellished clutch
Instead of your usual tote or cross-body, consider a sassy little clutch. You don’t need much more than lipstick, your cell, and some money, and clutches fancy-up an outfit. For NYE especially, I look for ones with embellishment or another unique feature (like a bright red hue or a bow!).
Sassy hats
Hats are huge right now, and if you’re spending NYE in a cold location, they’re great for the holiday. Of course I’m into pearl-embellished berets, or even a pom beanie if you are going more casual. Newsboy caps are always veryyy trendy at the moment, and give off a French Girl vibe – when you don’t want to your NYE look to try too hard.
Heels
It’s definitely a night to wear heels for most of us! You really can’t go wrong with a fun pair of heels tonight (leopard, sequined, etc), but if you’re wanting to keep things classic, a nude pump works any day of the year. If pumps aren’t your thing or are too freezing, suede ankle boots are your answer!
What’re You Doing?
On another note, do you know what you’re doing for NYE yet? I haven’t made up my mind yet. My friends and I are playing around with a few ideas. We might go to this fancy party, but then one of the girls had an idea to wear PJs, drink wine and plan out our 2018 goals together. And I’m thinking the latter sounds like a lot more fun? But I guess we could do that ANY night?! Ugh, not sure what we’ll end up doing! Knowing me, I’m sure I’ll wait until the very last minute to figure it out. Honestly, I sort of hate NYE. I’d much rather spend it at someone’s ranch around a fire or something with good friends. There’s so much hype surrounding the night, and it typically ends up being a disappointment, don’t you agree?
Some favorites from around the internet…
If you DO feel like dressing up this year, I personally found a few fun pieces while going through New Arrivals shopping for an upcoming photoshoot. I saw this sequin mini skirt ($148) which would be super cute with tights, a black turtleneck and a blazer (and maybe even OTK books?!). Or I personally got this black sequin shift dress ($65) that’s really cute with my flat OTK books! I also think this black dress ($100) would be SUPER cute with some statement earrings – even if you’re just going to a fun dinner, it would be fun to dress up in it! Or if you DO want to do a sequin dress, but something a little sassier, umm hello look at this one from ASOS ($103)?! Or this fun black jumpsuit ($100) is TO DIE for. Okay and TWO more dresses for you – One and TWO (both so pretty!)
