It’s been a minute since I fully chopped my longer hair, and I’ve had so much fun playing with new ways to wear it. I recently shared a post on how I style my short hair. This is the way I like to do my hair when I want a “wavy” look. But, if I’m looking for something a bit more polished, nothing compares to an at-home blowout.
I still follow a lot of the classic tips for round brushing your hair, but I do feel like things are a bit different now that my hair is chin-length. It’s super important to me to get that full-volume blowout without the “curled under” look. Otherwise, it’s not my favorite.
Alright so let me show you my technique for achieving this look at home—it’s quick, easy, and perfect for short hair!
Step 1: Tools You’ll Need
- Round brush
- Blow dryer (make sure it has a nozzle)
- Hair clips (optional)
- Anti-frizz spray (a few spritzes on damp hair)
Step 2: Start with Tension
Use your non-dominant hand to hold the round brush and your dominant hand for the blow dryer. Pick a section of hair you want to work with—if it’s tangly, give it a quick brush through first. Now, get some tension by pulling the hair taut at the root.
Step 3: The “Rolly Polly” Technique
Here’s the magic: you’re essentially brushing the hair with the round brush while grabbing it with your middle finger. Keep it taut at the root as you work your way down. If that feels tricky, use your wrist to rotate the brush. The goal is to keep control of the section.
Step 4: Blow Dry Like a Pro
As you brush, use your blow dryer (with the nozzle!) to direct the heat along the section. This helps smooth the hair and keeps everything sleek without making it too curled under.
Bonus tip: Make sure you can grip the hair well on the brush so you don’t need to hold it down with your fingers.
