Y’all this post is a LONG time coming. I literally get asked about my designer bags every day, so here it finally is! I’ve rounded up my five favorite designer handbags and am giving my honest review on each.
I know splurging on a designer bag can be a big expense, but in my opinion, these bags are an investment piece. I’ve owned each of them for years and they’re still in great shape. I also try to stick with bags that I know are iconic and won’t “go out of style” any time soon versus something a bit more trendy.
So, without further adieu, here is my honest review of my five favorite designer bags. I hope you enjoy!
What to Look for When Buying a Designer Bag
Whenever I’m on the hunt for a new bag (or if I have my eye on a specific bag), it’s important for me to visualize exactly what I’ll be using it for. Now that I’m a mom, it’s a lot more important for me to have a bag that’s functional and not just stylish.
On a day-to-day basis, I’m not switching my bag out quite as often (unless I’m shooting), so I need something that will truly go with whatever I’m wearing. I also tend to throw random pacifiers, wipes, diapers, etc., in my bag if we’re on the go, so whatever bag I buy needs to hold at least the bare essentials. Lastly, I also need a bag that’s durable (although I think most designer bags can hold up well if you know how to care for them correctly!).
How to Take Care of a Designer Bag
Whether you have one designer bag or dozens, it’s important that you store them carefully. I make sure each of my bags has a designated spot in my closet where I know it’s not going to get torn up or stepped on. As soon as I’m done using it, I always place it back in its spot for safekeeping. If you can, keep the original dust bag and store it inside that, sitting upright.
You’ll also want to be careful how you clean a designer bag. Don’t ever spray harsh chemicals on it as they can stain the leather or change the color of your bag. If you absolutely must wipe your bag, dip a washcloth in warm water and dish soap, then gently wipe the area that’s dirty.
Finally, I highly recommend finding a good handbag specialist in your area for general upkeep. They can help you with cracking leather, discoloration, or just basic cleaning of your bag. (Dallas people, The Cobbler is a handbag magician!)
My 5 Favorite Designer Bags
Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis
I wrote a blog post on my favorite Louis Vuitton bags not too long ago and had to include the Pochette Metis. Although I love my Neverfulls, I also really like that the Metis is a crossbody bag and much smaller in size. In my opinion, any handbag with the classic LV monogram print is a great choice because it will truly never go out of style.
I personally love to wear a good black and brown color outfit combo, and this bag completes any outfit by giving it a print that pulls it all together. I think this bag can also work really well with color too. If you look through my blog, you’ll see this bag in many, many outfits.
Caviar Quilted Jumbo Double Flap Black
THIS bag is such a classic. If you are looking for a bag that will last you forever, a black Chanel bag is it. I’m actually amazed at how much this bag fits, and I love that it has two sections in it so whatever I throw in my bag doesn’t get all tossed together.
I’ll admit that the flap-over bothers me a little bit because it’s not super easy to get into, but I can get over it because it’s just so pretty. I also love how big this bag is. As I mentioned, I need something that will hold all of the random items I carry around these days, and the Chanel Caviar can definitely do that. Plus, the gold woven hardware straps make me so happy!
Gucci Dionysus GG Supreme Mini Bag
The print on this bag is literally SUCH an outfit-maker. I love that it’s a neutral bag, but the print gives an outfit texture and makes things more interesting. I also love the metal chain detailing which adds texture and dimension to any outfit and feels a bit edgier than most of my designer bags.
This is probably the smallest of all my designer bags but I still feel like it holds everything I need; I just may not be able to throw in a random bottle or other toddler items. Usually, I’ll wear this if I know I’ll be carrying a diaper bag too or I’m going out without Four. The next size up in this bag is significantly bigger, so I really like this size in comparison.
Celine Smooth Calfskin Nano Luggage
This was one of the first designer handbags I purchased almost 10 years ago, and it’s still one that I wear more than any of my others. It goes with everything. If you’re looking to buy your first designer bag, you can’t go wrong with Celine in my opinion.
The Nano Luggage bag offers easy access in and out because it doesn’t have a flap covering, which I really like. It also holds all the essentials — it’s seriously the perfect small bag size. I love the gold hardware and the fact that it’s a crossbody so you don’t have to worry about carrying it. This bag has a small zipper at the top to close everything in, so it’s also really great if you’re traveling or know you’re going to be moving around a lot.
Gucci Soho Disco Bag
This was actually *the* very first designer bag I purchased for myself. I was so drawn to the gorgeous neutral color; it literally goes with everything. I find myself grabbing it over some of my other designer bags in a similar color because this one just WORKS.
I also really love the size of this bag and the fact that it’s a crossbody. If you can’t tell, I’m a big crossbody girl (especially now that my hands are usually being used to carry a little one… or his toys). I don’t usually love a BIG logo but this one doesn’t bother me. It truly completes any outfit!
