HI friends! So I know I haven’t talked much about oils here on my blog just yet, but over the past few months I’ve gotten really into them and have been sharing over on my @brightonessentials account! With Fall *basically* here, I wanted to do a fun post all about what I’m diffusing for all the fall vibes!
It’s such a beautiful time of year to layer extra coziness into our homes. Autumn smells happen to be my favorite, and I love that I can make my own with custom diffuser blends!
Did You Know Candles Can Be Harmful?
I didn’t. Well…I guess I had heard this, but I kind of chose to ignore it (I do this a lot when I don’t want to hear something) because I *love* candles so much. It wasn’t until a close friend of mine prompted me to do a little research that I actually was motivated to look into it. Plus, at the time (earlier this year), I knew I’d eventually want to start a family in the next year or so and that I should probably start educating myself on all the things I’ve been pushing to figure out “later.”
What I Learned
Once I started doing a little research (I took baby steps and moved very slowly), I learned that the air in our homes can sometimes be more polluted than outdoors. Much of this has to do with the products that we use inside of our homes and our air filtration system. One simple switch is to trade out the ways in which you scent your home. Getting rid of things like air freshener, scented candles, scented fabric refreshers etc. can have an impact on indoor air quality.
I’ve come to learn that candles can hide a lot of toxic ingredients. Are you ready for this? Burning scented candles can be just as toxic as inhaling second hand cigarette smoke. This blew me away.
From synthetic fragrances that can be hormone disrupters, wax filled petroleum and colored with dyes, wicks that can fill the air with carcinogens… Even though I like the ambiance and the smell of some scented candles, I’ve felt really strongly that we need to make a switch.
Enter in Diffusing Essential Oils
The mist is water vapor with tiny droplets of essential oils. The quality of the oils matter, which is why I choose Young Living. All of their essential oils undergo rigorous testing and meet industry leading purity standards.
Diffusing also can have aromatherapy benefits, and is more cost effective long term. Armed with all of this information, I’ve made it a point to get diffusers for each room of our home and to stock up on the oils that I love diffusing most.
Ditching fall candles might have felt impossible, but with the candle flicker setting on my diffusers and a stockpile of warm and cozy smelling oils, I’m feeling good about this change!
Here are a few of my favorite blends that you need to try!
A few oils that I’ve been stocking up on and love to have on hand this time of year are: northern lights black spruce, cinnamon bark, stress away, orange, cassia, pine, clove, cardamom, nutmeg, Christmas spirit, Thieves, sacred mountain and more!
