Lately I’ve been preoccupied with searching the inter-webs high and low for design inspiration for my soon to be New Orleans home. We still don’t know for sure if we got the house, but my fingers are crossed!
At the moment, I’m transitioning between the leisurely-looking-for-inspiration “stage” TO the let’s-be-realistic-and-make-some-decisions “stage”. It’s fun and all to swoon over pretty pinterest pictures, BUT realistically speaking, my fresh-out-of-college home will most likely not resemble that of Kelly Wearstler or Aerin Lauder. (and rightfully so! haha) But seriously though, I had NO idea how expensive furniture and such (other house stuff) can be! So you can imagine (or at least relate in some way to) my shock when I discovered that, for instance, the beautiful french-inspired chaise lounge and glamorous lucite desk I’d had my heart set on were both well into the triple and even quadruple digits! Are you kidding me? That’s nuts!
But I was excited to discover that you could find (if you look hard enough) some pretty awesome vintage and other budget friendly luxe-looking decor. For starters, Ikea is pretty legit…I don’t know about it’s durability or logevity, but I bet I’ll be ordering quite a few things from there. (I mean, $30 for a chic side table? Score!) Also, I really like West Elm and Z-Gallery too. Oh, and Etsy of course!! I definitely want my place to be eclectic….like a conglomeration of different styles and unique pieces that don’t all perfectly fit together….but still work (if you know what I mean?) I’d love to have one or two antique pieces mixed with some contemporary and modern pieces as well. I hope to find some good flea markets in the meantime to pick up some neat little details.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to this weekend. How was your weekend? I hope you all had a good Father’s day!
PS: since I mentioned Kelly Wearstler…ummmm have you seen the show room/boutique she designed for Trina Turk? It’s AMAZE. No, but really. It’s awesome.
