During my time in Sorrento (2 nights) I stayed at Hotel Parco Dei Principi, which I found pretty last minute on Booking.com. I didn’t do much research for hotels in Sorrento, but this place looked nice – I was most excited about the views though! The hotel is located on the side of a cliff and the views are just UNREAL.
Location
Sorrento isn’t a very big town (which I love!), but I want to mention that this hotel is actually not in Sorrento. Rather, it is in the adjacent town of Sant’Agnello which is about a 15 minute walk. The relatively remote (ish) location of course has it’s pros and cons – a few of which I’ll name. It’s nice that it’s secluded from all the crowds and touristy vibes and the beach area is much calmer than the main areas in Sorrento.
It’s also really nice that the hotel has a free shuttle that runs back and forth to the city center (about a 5 minute ride) all throughout the day. However, the last shuttle leaves the city at 9:15 so you’ll need to take a cab home (or walk) if you stay out later. Oh and while I’ve mentioned the cabs, you should know that there’s a 9.50 Euro base rate for “night service” cabs (aka after dark) – just FYI.
I should note that there isn’t much surrounding the hotel, so if you want to eat somewhere you’ll need to make plans and coordinate transportation accordingly. You could definitely walk too – I did this one of the nights I was there and it was actually quite nice after a big pasta dinner!
Although not in the center of the city, the grounds of the hotel are absolutely spectacular. Like I mentioned above, Hotel Parco Dei Principi is located on the cliffs of the Sorrento Coast overlooking the bay of Naples.
Funky 1960’s Modern Style by Gio Ponti
The hotel has 1960’s modern style and is entirely the creation of famous of Italian Architect, Gio Ponti. He designed everything from the furniture to the exquisite tile and the outdoor patio and sitting area (which is fabulous!). If I had to describe the hotel in a nutshell, I would say that it’s VERY groovy -ha! It’s not really my style but I can definitely appreciate it and my favorite part was the fabulous, colorful tile throughout the hotel.
The tile in the bar area (next to the lobby) with these cute little flower things was by far my absolute favorite throughout all the hotel! Isn’t it so cute?!
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
The rooms were okay – not bad and not fabulous. Again, my favorite part was the beautiful (yet very groovy lol) blue and white tile floor. The entire room is blue and white actually. If I had to say one thing about the rooms, I would mention that the bathroom is kinda yucky feeling – the lighting is awful and I tried to minimize my time in there as much as possible. It’s livable for sure, but I don’t think it’s up to the standards of a typical “luxury” style hotel. But nonetheless, it shouldn’t be a deterrent!
Hotel Restaurant
The food was decent but nothing to write home about! The view however was another story. Here’s a snapchat (above) of the view from the hotel restaurant – it’s amazing! 🙂 I got room service once and it was pretty disappointing to be honest. The food wasn’t that great and it took longer than usual for it to arrive.
All in all the hotel is pretty decent, but definitely not a favorite. I would look into other hotels if I were to spend more time in Sorrento. Also, it might be nice to actually stay in the middle of town so I didn’t have to take a shuttle back and forth – but that’s just me!
Have you visited Sorrento? If so, where did you stay?
