Utility Jacket

If you’ve followed me for awhile you know I love wearing utility jackets for fall. You can’t go wrong with a classic, green jacket outfit – no matter which season it is! Utility jackets are easy to layer and the olive color really acts as a neutral. I mix and match mine with different colors and patterns that add depth to my wardrobe. My favorites are the ones by J.Crew and Madewell because they cinch at the waist, making the jacket not too boxy.

I love that you can easily wear an olive green jacket, or “utility” jacket, no matter the season; they’re a year-round staple for sure! And over the years, I’ve come to realize that olive green is essentially a neutral like chambray and khaki are, meaning that it’s super easy to mix-and-match with other items in your closet. I love pairing my green jackets (both utility and other styles too!) with stripes, white, black and even leopard too sometimes! Here you’ll find plenty of outfit ideas (hopefully!) by looking through some of the looks I’ve previously worn with my military jacket over the years.

I love a good Canadian tuxedo, especially when a “third piece” is added like a cognac leather belt, a vest, or in this case a cream blazer! I’ve found that denim on denim outfits typically look best when I pair contrasting-colored pieces of denim like I did here with dark jeans and a lighter chambray button up. I love the look of cognac accessories – like this bag – when worn with denim. Something about the contrast just WORKS. Don’t you think? I wore this outfit for my blog post on something I think about often and have actually lived by my entire life – but never really had a name for it until I read Mark Manson’s book, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F$#%.
