The Things We Want

Words to live by: Never let the things you want make you forget the things you have. Powerful, right? Sometimes it’s easy to get sucked into the materialistic world that surrounds us, thinking that “more” will make us happier. The truth is that it won’t. And it’s our decision whether or not we want to be enslaved by the things that we want. Choose happiness. Choose gratitude! I know it’s easier…

NOLA move: Under Construction

Remember how I discussed painting my room? Well, I went ahead and did it last weekend. I was going to post about it earlier, but as you probably know, I’ve been galavanting across Texas (and Missouri AND Illinois) doing a little PR for the Dee Keller Design brand. So, my post schedule got a little off track. Here a few “behind the scenes” shots of my room before we started…

Neimans Adventure: Texas Day 1

Whew! What a day! It began with my not-so-pleasant alarm going off around 4:00 AM, followed by a few hours of traveling and a little studying here and there on the way. Fortunately, everything was on time (thank you Southwest!), and I had a great start to my day. The best part about this little trip, besides meeting the sales team, was that I was able to see a few…

DIY: Silver Baskets

I found this Martha Stewart DIY a few months back and decided I had to try it out. I needed a storage option and knew these baskets would be the perfect solution. It’s easy as pie and the results are great. All you need is silver spray paint & baskets! I used these baskets, but any extras you have around the house would look great as well! I just thought…

Easy Fall Layering

SHOP EQUIPMENT BLOUSES + SWEATERS A good-fitting silk blouse and a comfy sweater is one of my go-to looks for cooler temperatures. It’s so simple yet so pulled together at the same time. I love mixing different patterns and colors too – both untucked and tucked. I’ve mentioned Equipment blouses before, commenting on how expensive they are, but I wanted to bring them up again. I know they’re quite the…

NOLA Room: Accents

I finally got me bed down to NOLA a few days ago (woohoo!! no more mattress on the floor!), so things are sort of coming together. Right now, the walls in my room are a light green-ish color, which is actually very pretty; unfortunately, though, it totally clashes with this whole white-vibe/modern-eclectic I’ve got going on. If I were going for a more traditional look, this color would be absolutely perfect. But I’ve…

Be true to who you are

Let’s be …awesome, daring, imaginative, honest, thankful, inspiring, and Optimistic TODAY.  Let’s make a conscious effort to be a “first rate version of ourselves” today. Because there’s no better day than today. and, well, why not? Who’s with me?! Think before you speak. Mind your manners. Put others before yourself. Take a risk. Do something just for you. Let it “go” — don’t let whatever “it” is get to you today. Smile at…

Tidy Room, Tidy Mind

Hey there! So… my inner-self is feeling quealing with excitement. Kind of like these kiddos below :) Can you relate? I’ve been waiting/anticipating (slightly miserable haha) for this day (post-exam #2) for a few weeks now, and the postponement due to isaac really didn’t help the situation! So now, I’m done! Yay! But I don’t really feel that relieved.  All I can say is that there were some seriously RANDOM questions…

bring your own sunshine

As I mentioned a few days ago, things have been quite chaotic and raining in Louisiana.  I am heading back to Louisiana today after escaping  from Isaac to Houston.  I am hoping to return to sunny skies!  Hope you have a lovely Thursday with lots of sunshine!

A Little Bit of Chaos

Things are a little chaotic down here in Louisiana. So to keep things quick and simple, I’ll just list a few of the things I’m still trying to accept as reality. 1. My test is REALLY cancelled. I can stop studying. I have no idea when it will be rescheduled. 2. I spent $60 on groceries that we had to throw out 2 hours later. 3. I left my lovely…

Obsession: ikat bowls

For the past 6/7 months or so, I’ve been on the hunt for some iKat bowls. It’s a well known fact (well, at least in the blogosphere), that Anthropologie once had these adorable iKat bowls shown in the images above for only $12!! Sadly, though, they don’t have them anymore. I’ve searched Ebay, Amazon, and the like for a similar look, but haven’t really had much luck other than the…

I’d rather be honest than impressive

and quite frankly, it’s much easier that way. Pretending to be perfect or have it all together is LAME. Not only does it make you unapproachable and intimidating, but it’s exhausting! Letting people “see” your flaws and weaknesses, although scary, can also be refreshing and sometimes even cathartic. And, in my opinion, it is the only way to build true, meaningful relationships. Plus, it makes you more interesting! I mean, would I have any readers…

Home Decor: Vintage Finds + Photo Lighting

As the sun was setting yesterday evening, I couldn’t help but be distracted by the beautiful array of colors reflecting on and flooding through the windows. Within minutes of noticing the light, I was running around all frantic, gathering my camera (and lenses, as well as scrounging around for my missing memory card).  I also grabbed a few surrounding still-life objects to shoot, which just so happened to all be…

Lemon Love

I kind of have a thing for lemons. Not sure why, but there’s just something about them that makes my heart sing. Maybe it’s their bright yellow hue or interesting shape; who knows, I just know I’m a fan. The funny thing is, though, lemon/yellow is my least favorite flavor skittle, laffy-taffy, mento, and the list goes on and on. But i guess those are all technically artificial anyway, so…

Vanity Styling: Glamorous Fragrances

This weekend, I came back to Baton Rouge to pack up the last bit of my things. I was packing up my little collection of perfumes that I’ve collected over the years and couldn’t help but notice how pretty and unique the packaging and bottling of each scent.  In particular, I love the shape of Creed‘s and Stella McCarney‘s bottles…and the glamorous little daisies that ornament Daisy by Marc Jacobs.…

We Are What We Repeatedly Do

Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit. love it. Per the norm, Aristotle was one of the first philosophers I studied. Initially I found his work rather dry and his logic relatively straight-forward, and thus, boring. I know now, though, that way off base in this perspective/impression
